Cormorant Watch

Tools and technologies: PHP, HTML, CSS, jQuery, Codeigniter, Google Maps
Project type: Website
Date added: 14.06.2011

This website was created for the UK non-profit organization Angling Trust. It is a new site enabling anglers to upload sightings of cormorants, mergansers and goosanders to help build a picture of their presence in the UK. More information about its goal can be found in this YouTube video.

The website itself was built on top of the Codeigniter PHP framework and includes an administration panel that queues submitted sightings for approval and enables the administrator to extract and export data using different filters. The map itself uses clustering to optimize the performance with large amounts of added sighting. Additionally, the reverse geocoding technique is used to determine the county of each sighting.

The design of the website was provided by the client, and its coding and back-end implementation was done by me.

The website can be found at http://www.cormorantwatch.org.
